Historic first for Special Olympics athletes at the 2024 European Championships in Limburg

On Sunday, September 15, a special first will take place during the 2024 European Championship in Limburg. For the first time, Special Olympics athletes from all over Europe have the opportunity to participate in an official race within the European Championship programme. 

Thanks to the collaboration between the 2024 European Championships in Limburg, Special Olympics Belgium, and Special Olympics Europe Eurasia, around 50 athletes with intellectual disabilities will compete in a 5.1 km race through the center of Hasselt. The race starts at 14:45 and follows the Hasselt loop of the European Championships course. After their race, all athletes will be honored on the official European Championships podium.
